I’ve already reviewed the Proporta Soft Feel Silicon Case, and next up in my series of case reviews is the VOi! Lorem. I was quite impressed with the Proporta case, but this one is different – it’s a hard case with changeable front pieces.
Plus, it’s the only case Ive seen with an integrated lanyard in the back, to help you hold on to your iPhone.
Will it be enough tempt me away from the Proporta case?
The Details
The VOi! Lorem is a hard plastic shell-style interlocking case. It comes in two pieces. The main shell has a lining to keep your phone snug. The “VOi Axent Ring” snaps on the front to keep your iPhone in place, and once it’s on, you’ll need to use a coin in the dock cutout to snap it off.
Cases are available in Obsidian, Phantom Mist, Fireside and Sudden Blush – which is black, white, red and pink to you and me.
There are three cutouts at the bottom for the dock connector, speaker and mic. There’s a large cutout on the side for the ringer switch and volume control. There’s another couple of cutouts at the top for the headphone jack and hold button. The camera lens also has a cutout, and there’s a hole on the back to help you push your iPhone out when you want to change cases.
And on the back, there’s a lanyard point and lanyard.
What’s Good?
The plastic doesn’t – in the main – feel flimsy. There are nice touches such as the internal lining, which stops any movement within the case.
I felt that my iPhone was nice and snug in this case. I did drop it once while using this case, but it didn’t crack or scuff, and my iPhone was undamaged, which was nice
What’s Not So Good?
The plastic does feel a bit flimsy around the dock connector. I wouldn’t want to take the case off too often for fear of breaking it.
The supplied lanyard isn’t big enough for me to fit my hand into and comfortably use the phone. I think it would be fine with a smaller hand, but I couldn’t hold the phone and use it with the lanyard around my wrist. Swapping out the lanyard for a longer one would solve this though.
I found the plastic around the ringer and volume controls to be too high. I had to fiddle with the ringer switch with my thumbnail, and changing volume with the phone in my pocket was very difficult – I just couldn’t feel the controls.
Anything Else?
The package includes a cleaning cloth.
VOi! encourage you to mix and match the backs and fronts of the cases, but they only sell them as complete one-colour units. So if you’ve bought an Obsidian but are feeling a bit Phantom Mist, then you’ll have to buy a whole extra case. I don’t think swapping your case colours is going to be quite as exciting as VOi! think it will be.
Summary
Personally, I’m sticking with the Proporta case for the moment. But the main thing going for this case for me is the lanyard – it’s unusual, and I haven’t seen it on another iPhone case. If you’re worried about dropping your iPhone and feel a lanyard will help, then this case may be for you. If you’re a bloke, you’ll need to buy a longer lanyard that you don’t have to squeeze around your wrist.
