Laurent Denoue asked me to review his iPhone app PopMath, so here’s a quick look.
It’s a simple maths game, aimed squarely at children. But it aims to be a bit more fun than just lines of sums.
At the start, 6 balls float around the screen, and you have to match up the sums with the correct answers. It starts off with simple additions. As you complete the levels, the number of floating balls increasing, and the sums beging to include substraction, division and multiplication.
For an adult, it’s pretty straightforward, but I tried it out on a friend’s 7 year-old child and she quite enjoyed it. It’s not going to keep your child occupied for hours, but then this is maths we’re talking about! Any time spent enjoying themselves while learning has got to be a good thing.
One slight snag: I got through the levels just as quickly by randomly hitting the bubbles. So if you see your child getting through the levels really quickly, you may want to see if they’re really the maths genuises that you think they are…
PopMath is 59p, available from the AppStore.
