Upgraded to 8.1 yesterday and had problems too. I don’t have any 3rd party apps, but it basically blatted my iPod Touch (1st Gen).

After upgrading iTunes and connecting my Touch, it sent my Touch into recovery mode automatically – after which it did a restore and then upgrade of the firmware, then a restore from backup… And my iPod was blank!

Also all settings within iTunes had been scrapped (previous upgrades haven’t done this).

Oh well… Annoying but recoverable from…

Steve, yes I know you use a mac :-). If an application plays up on a mac eg not starting, doesn’t print or interacts in a funny way the first thing you should do is repair permissions. It’s a good idea to do this before and after doing a major install like iLife, large Mac OSX update. UP printer driver updates are particularly bad at having wrong permissions and seem to screw up the system. (I’m a long time mac user)

No – why on earth would this be needed? Well, ok, in hindsight I can see why this would be relevant, but this is on a Mac – such manual hackery should definitely not be needed!!

I haven’t updated my iTunes to 8.1 yet but this article makes me weary of doing so, is it affecting 100% of the users Steve or is it the select unlucky few?
